Susan and Jacquelyn

For Susan...

You are an anchor...
On these rocky shores...
Harboring me from disaster while I explore the world

You are a mantel
I am an old picture
Jagged edged and far from perfect
you give me somewhere to hang my head

You are an empty chair...
filled by the air that surrounds you...
And I am a restless soul, a wanderer
but with you I am home

But will you stay with me, stay forever?
And I will follow you wherever...

Call me, let me be the one
Call me, and I'll be coming home
Call me, when you need someone...

To sing you a lullaby...
All through the night...

You are an idea
I am a dreamer
So lets dream up a world
where people believe in love

I am a hand-me-down
Something someone once threw out
And you are a collector of things forgotten

I am as poor as a church mouse
armed with this guitar and some crumbs
But baby together
we richer than anyone will ever be

And I promise to shelter you from bad weather
And I will comfort you till things are better
And you ask me, "If I'll get bored of you?"
Darling, never...

Call me, let me be the one
Call me, and I'll be your home
Call me, when you need someone

To sing you a lullaby...
To be your lullaby...
All through my life...
All through the night...

You are an anchor...
On these rocky shores...

For Jackie...

I listened to my heart
that warm spring evening
and everything felt right for the first time in my life
That night our hands touched
I felt my soul open up and I was free
I used to hold myself back from loving my future
but when I met you, I was no longer afraid.
Just your smile is enough...
I remember to breathe in the day
and I am home.
And I remember exactly what you looked like
when we fell in love
pink and purple tulips,
a red bandana,
and two sets of hands
side by side
memorizing the moment
And as we stand here today,
my heartsong releases
her wings are spread wide
from the love that is you and I
