Carrie and Crystal

Crystal works as a disability rights attorney and is a founding member of the LGBTQ Law Association of Central New York. Carrie has her MA in Gender and Cultural Studies and works as a Case Manager for pregnant and parenting women. Crystal enjoys playing sports and teaching classes, and Carrie enjoys reading and playing video games. Together we go out for drinks with friends, watching movies, attend conferences, and spend time together as a couple. We also spend a lot of time restoring our new home, an old craftsman bungalow style house on the Southwest side of the city of Syracuse.

We believe family consists of the people who support, love, and understand us. We can look at each other and see through to the core of each other. Because of that, we are able to take care of each other and provide the care and support that each of us needs. Our family also consists of our relatives and friends who support and understand us, as well as our one year old puppy, Jett.

We don't have any marriage plans in the works. Although we believe in marriage equality for all people, we are not interested in marriage as a future possibility for ourselves. For us, marriage represents a kind of state regulation of our own private lives that we just are not comfortable with. Being a family to us is about how we see ourselves and each other more than how other people see us. That's not to say that we aren't interested in the rights afforded to married couples, we just think that the rights that the government affords to married couples should be awarded to all families regardless of their make-up.
