New Web Site Features Introduced

The Light Work Web site has undergone a series of changes
making it easier to find essential information. The home
page now features news headlines, while the added section Light Work News provides brief descriptions of current events and opportunities at Light Work and the Community Darkrooms. This new section also makes past e-newsletters available for the first time. Another new addition is the
Artist Support section, which highlights the many services Light Work offers to artists, including artist residencies, grants, darkroom access, fine art digital printing, and a multitude of courses at the Community Darkrooms.

Many other areas on the Web site have been improved, such as the Artist-in-Residence section, which now includes brief profiles on each current artist in the residency program. The Light Work Permanent Collection, which features over 2,100 photographs in a searchable online archive, has been updated and now includes the work of recent Artists-in-Residence, such as Tone Stockenstöm, Pipo Nguyen-duy, Bharti Parmar, and Judy Natal.

Please take a look at the changes. Feedback is welcomed.

Artist-in-Residence: Martin Kollár

Slovakian photographer Martin Kollár likes to examine the ordinary to discover the extraordinary in life. He started into his residency with the goal to capture a view of American middle-class society, both indoors and outdoors. As luck would have it, the weather aligned with Martin's plans, bringing long-awaited sunshine to Syracuse. Thanks to Martin's quick draw of the shutter, he has been able to capture in-between moments that otherwise would have escaped notice. He has been photographing every day, while also allowing time to scan negatives and create proof prints.

Martin has exhibited his work internationally. Among other photographic awards, he received a Leica Oskar Barnack Award Honorable Mention in 2004. Martin lives in Bratislava, Slovakia, when not traveling in pursuit of photography.
