Light Work/Community Darkrooms New Employee
Light Work/Community Darkrooms is pleased to introduce its newest employee. Laura Adams Guth joined Light Work on June 19, 2006 as the Assistant Director.
Guth is an artist working in photography and cross-media installations. Her work is exhibited and presented nationally and internationally, and she is the recipient of numerous grants, awards, and fellowships. Guth's current series, Guilty Pleasures: Little Lolitas, deals with the collectible doll phenomenon, as marketed and sold on television shopping channels, such as QVC. The extremely close-up photographs, along with video and audio, explore the motives of doll makers and collectors as they highlight overtly sexualized features in combination with conservative trappings of idealized childhood. Guth recently moved to Syracuse, NY, from Oklahoma, where she taught photography and digital imaging at the University of Oklahoma.
Light Work is a non-profit, artist-run organization dedicated to the support of artists working in photography and electronic media. For more information call Light Work at (315) 443-1300.
