Jeffrey Hoone and Light Work receive award for Service to Artists
Light Work is pleased to announce that Jeffrey Hoone, executive director, and the entire organization will be honored at the Alliance of New York State Arts Organizations Fall Gala in New York City on November 15, 2006. The award will be presented in the category "Service to Artists".
Light Work is a non-profit, artist-run organization whose mission is to support emerging and under-recognized artists working in photography and digital media. This recognition, particularly in the Service to Artists category, is a great honor because the entire staff at Light Work is dedicated to working with and supporting artists in a variety of ways, including exhibitions, grants, publications, a renowned Artist-in-Residence program, and hands-on assistance through public-access darkroom and digital facilities.
Jeffrey Hoone has been at Light Work for over 25 years. He was first hired in 1980, and was made director in 1982 when the organization's founders, Phil Block and Tom Bryan, left to pursue other career goals. When Hoone took over Light Work, he was the only full-time employee. Since 1982, the organization has grown to 7 employees, all of whom serve a variety of roles the common goal to support artists. Over the years, Hoone has facilitated countless programs, publications, and exhibitions with the focus of serving artists from all over the world. Recently he was named executive director of CMAC, the Coalition of Museum and Arts Centers, which is a Syracuse University department that strives to bring together galleries and arts organizations on campus and in the Syracuse community.
The goal of the Alliance of New York State Arts Organizations is to provide essential leadership and services to arts and cultural organizations across the state of New York. Founded thirty years ago, the Alliance assists arts organizations in gaining community support, and also informs organizations about prominent issues (both in New York and nationally) that affect the arts.
