Doug DuBois Lecture and Book Signing

Light Work is pleased to announce an upcoming lecture by Doug DuBois, accompanied by the signing of his new book ...all the days and nights. DuBois will give a lecture about his photographic work, which examines the complexities of family life within the fragility of daily emotions. His book is the result of decades-long observation, during which he followed his family through joyous celebrations and devastating losses.
...all the days and nights, recently published by Aperture, will be available for sale at the event for a special discounted price of $40, or in conjunction with a one-year subscription to Light Work's publication Contact Sheet for $60. The book is hardcover, 128 pages, and features sixty-two four-color images.
DuBois began the project of photographing his family in 1984. Since then there have been both happy and hard times, including a nearly fatal fall from a commuter train by his father, and his mother's subsequent breakdown and hospitalizations. According to DuBois, "the pallor of my mother's skin, the glare of my father's gaze, and the tactile communication between my sister and nephew constitute a complex and resonant picture of family ties." This series looks not only at Dubois' family, but at the act of placing life under the constant gaze of the camera.
DuBois received his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. His work has been exhibited internationally at galleries such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, NY; J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, CA; and PARCO Gallery in Tokyo, Japan, among many others. His work is included in the permanent collections at SFMOMA in San Francisco, CA; The Library of Congress in Washington, DC; and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, England, and others. DuBois is currently a professor in the Department of Transmedia, part of Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts.
