| Light Work, a non-profit, artist-run photography
organization and imaging center, will offer three grants
to Central New York photographers, critics, or photo-historians.
The grants of $1,000 each are awarded every year to
encourage the creation of new work and scholarship
in the Central New York region.
This year marks the thirty-first
year that the Light Work Grants will be awarded.
The recipients of these grants are invited to display
their work in a special exhibition at the Light
Work Gallery, and their work will also be published
in Light Work’s award-winning
photography journal, Contact Sheet.
All applicants must be residents of one of the following
counties: Broome, Cayuga, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland,
Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga,
Oswego, Schuyler, Seneca, St. Lawrence, Tioga, or
Tompkins. Applications must be postmarked or delivered
to Light Work by March 31, 2005.
Submissions will be reviewed
by a panel of three judges who live outside the
eligible geographic area. Grants will be awarded
based on the strength of the candidate’s
portfolio and completed application. Light Work
interprets the medium of photography in broad terms,
and encourages the submission of work produced
with new and traditional technologies.
Any individuals who received a Light Work Grant
before 2001 may apply again this year. Full-time
students are not eligible for this competition. Grantees
will be notified of the results by May 15, 2005.
