Kris Graves

June 2019

Kris Graves is a photographer and publisher based in New York and London. Graves creates portraits and landscape to preserve memory. The stillness of subject and environment in his work causes the viewer to acknowledge the inevitability of change and passage of time in the natural and built environments. He works to elevate the representation of people of color in fine art and create opportunities for conversation about race, representation, and urban life. Graves received his BFA in Visual Arts from SUNY Purchase. He has published and exhibited globally, including Blue Sky Gallery (Portland, Oregon), Bryn Mawr College (Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania), Center for Fine Art Photography (Fort Collins, Colorado), ClampArt Gallery (New York City), National Portrait Gallery (London, UK), and Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (Virginia Beach). He is represented by Sasha Wolf Projects. Graves is a photographer for the Guggenheim Museum and director of +Kris Graves Projects and IYVEE.
