Contact Sheet 100 features the work of Martina Lopez. She began working with computer imaging in the 1980s with a project featuring photographs of her family. The project offered Lopez a way to reconstruct memories and explore feelings of loss and change. In her later work, Lopez utilized found images taken from other people’s family albums. Her work is usually produced in large-scale format, allowing for different perceptions to be made from a distance and up close.
Martina Lopez earned a BFA from the University of Washington in Seattle and an MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has been exhibited nationally, and featured in numerous publications including Aperture; A World History of Photography, Third Edition by Naomi Rosenblum; American Photography: A Century of Images by Vicki Goldberg and Robert Silberman; and Photography Reborn by Jonathan Lipkin. Lopez is a professor at the University of Notre Dame.
