Contact Sheet 133: Kanako Sasaki
Paperback: 48 pages
Publisher: Light Work (August 22, 2005)
This catalogue features the work of Japanese photographer Kanako Sasaki. She draws inspiration for her images from childhood memories, imagination, and Japanese novels, and Ukiyo-e paintings. Her images capture their own piece of Ukiyo, the concept of a floating world, where nothing in life is too small to notice and where a trivial gesture can epitomize the experience of a lifetime.
This catalogue includes an essay by Hannah Frieser.
Kanako Sasaki was born and raised in Sendai, Japan. She experienced American life when her family spent over a year in New Orleans, then decided to return to the United States for undergraduate school at Ithaca College, followed by graduate studies at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. She participated in Light Work’s Artist-in-Residence program in 2005.
