Description

We Skate Hardcore is the culmination of a decade-long project that looks at a group of Latino boys in Williamsburg, Brooklyn whose passion is in-line skating. For the project Vincent Cianni documented them on and off their skates to provide a vivid portrait of their lives through photographs, video stills, and commentary from the skaters themselves. A DVD with footage of the skaters and an interview with Cianni is also included.

Vincent Cianni’s work has been exhibited internationally, including galleries in Germany, England, and all across the United States. He is also featured in numerous permanent collections, including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the Southeast Museum of Photography, the Museet fur Fotokunst in Sweden, and the Biblioteque National de France in Paris, among many others. He has received grants and awards, including a Santa Fe Vision Award, a Jerome Foundation Grant for the publication of We Skate Hardcore, and a Best Book Design for Trade Publication award from the American Association of University Presses, among others. Cianni participated in Light Work’s Artist-in-Residence program in 2000.
