Description

Burma: Something Went Wrong features portraits of a people struggling against the country’s military regime along its borders. Photographer Chan Chao traveled the Thai-Burma border and sought out student activists who had called for democracy in Burma during the 1988 uprising. These stunning portraits bring to life the people of the border and their desire for sociopolitic change.

—

Chan Chao was born in Kalemyo, Burma in 1966. He and his family left Burma for the United States in 1978. Chao studied photography under John Gossage at the University of Maryland. He currently lives in Washington, DC, where he works as a freelance photographer.
