Elle Pérez

May 2022

Elle Pérez makes photographs imbued with desire and a profound sense of care for their subjects. Their images depict intimate moments and emotional exchanges in visceral detail, often working collaboratively with those they photograph in order to make photographs that reflect on the ever-changing nature of identity. Pérez’s pictures depict the traces of queer experiences while also playing with the notion of authenticity by utilizing an approach to portrait photography that blurs the lines between traditional documentary, still life, and landscape photography. Recent solo exhibitions include Devotions (2021), Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh; from sun to sun (2019), Public Art Fund, New York; and Diablo (2018), MoMA PS1, New York. Perez’s work has been included in group exhibitions at the Renaissance Society, Chicago; Barbican Centre, London; Brooklyn Museum, New York; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. Pérez received an MFA in Photography from Yale in 2015.
