Lucero Del Castillo Ames (b. Lima, 1981) is a photographer with master’s degrees in anthropology from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and contemporary photography from the Centro de la Imagen. Her work focuses on the dynamics between gender and power generated by socioeconomic conditions and cultural consumption, addressed from a documentary and artistic approach. She researches diverse archives and explores the relationship between images and texts with the aim of historicizing the gaze and disarticulating hegemonic discourses. Her photographic practice is nourished by anthropological thought, contemporary critical theory, and the work of different artistic creators. She has always been interested in articulating the circles of thought with those of artistic production. She was a finalist for the PhMuseum 2018 Women Photographers Grant. She has participated in exhibitions in Peru and France and is a university professor. In 2023 she published the photobook Contrapunto (co-authored with Víctor Vich) and made the short film El principio de lo terrible.
