Barbara Bosworth & Emily Sheffer

March 2025

Barbara Bosworth grew up in Novelty, Ohio, and currently lives in Massachusetts. She is a professor emeritus of photography at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston. Her large-format photographs explore both overt and subtle relationships between humans and the rest of the natural world. Bosworth’s work has been widely exhibited, recently in solo exhibitions at the Cleveland Museum of Art (2024) and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (2024). Her publications include Some Lights Are from Fires (Dust Collective, 2024), One Star and a Dark Voyage (TIS Books, 2020), The Meadow (Radius Books, 2015), and Behold (Datz Press, 2014).

Emily Sheffer is an artist, educator, and publisher based in Massachusetts. She designs, edits, and constructs small-edition photography books through her imprint, Dust Collective. Each Dust Collective book shows a close attention to material and detail, embracing the beauty of the printed image.

Dust Collective books are in the collections of the New York Public Library, International Center of Photography, Phillips Library at Peabody Essex Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and Harvard Fine Arts Library.

Bosworth and Sheffer have worked together for the past decade. In that time, they have collaborated on many projects, including several handmade photography books featuring photography by Bosworth and book design and production by Sheffer. Other collaborative endeavors include exhibition and arts education projects.
