Arpita Shah
September 2019
Arpita Shah is a visual artist and arts community facilitator working in Edinburgh, Scotland. She works between photography and film, exploring the fields where culture, heritage, and identity meet. As an India-born artist based in Scotland, Shah spent the earlier part of her life living between India, Ireland, and the Middle East before settling in the UK. Her practice, which often deals with the experience of shifting cultural identities, reflects these travels. Her work uses Asian and Eastern mythology both visually and conceptually to explore the issues of cultural displacement in the Asian Diaspora. Shah also co-directs Fòcas Scotland, a photography initiative set up to support emerging photographers in Scotland.
